Unlucky day

July 21

My external hard drive has some problems that my computer can't recognize it. I searched how I can fix it up on the net, but I couldn't. So, I went to Daniel's place. Actually, I didn't want to ask him about that because I had asked him every time my computer had had problems. One day, I brought my computer and he connected it to his one and then, 15 seconds later, mine started to infect his one with viruses. (To be honestly, my computer had more than 300 viruses at that time ^-^;;;;;) After that, he had to format his computer. Of course, my computer had to format as well and of course he did it for me(actually, for my poor computer ^-^;;). And I decided I'll never ask him about my computer. I was so sorry for him. HOWEVER... I asked again. I didn't know someone else who knows about computer things well. Plus, his roommate was a computer specialist in Brazil. So, I asked again under unavoidable circumstances. ^-^;; As my expectation, they teased me. "Do you really need a computer?" "Every electronic things scares at you. Plese don't touch my computer, Xbox etc." like that. T.T It was okay because all I need was fixing my external hard drive. Nevertheless, they couldn't fix it. They needed a desktop for fixing it, but they and I have only laptops.

Therefore, I went to a best buy which I bought it. There was one girl who is from India and had problems with her computer and she kept complaining. "Even though I bought warrantee, I have to pay more and they make me keep waiting~~~" so I said "Really? How come? I think I should pay more as well" Our conversation was all complaint. Finally, a guy who works there came to me and said "Sorry, we don't have any screwdrivers that can open your hard drive, so, we couldn't even check this. You should go to other repair store." What? It doesn't make sense!! I bought extra warrantee because they said if I buy extra warrantee, they'll fix a product that I bought for free and if they can't fix, they'll exchange for new one. However, now, they can't fix and they say just "sorry". At that time, the indian girl helped me and the guy said "ok, then, I'll give a new one" Hehehe~ ^-^ but I didn't exchange because I didn't want to lose my files: my pictures that I took for about a year, animations, movies, my bank informations etc. After I came back home, I checked many sites for data recovery on the net. It costs, at least, $400.00. At least $400.00!! So, I gave up!! I'll go to a best buy to exchange next week. T.T

After that, I went to Mie's work place, but she already left, so I coulnd't see her, and I went to have late dinner with Daniel, but a restorant that I wanted to go already closed, so I went to another restorant(actually, that restorant was good), but my chopsticks were broken, and I went to a supermarket to buy a sampoo. Finally, just $5.00 left in my purse. I don't have money, thesedays 'cause I lended my money to my friend.
FORTUNATELY, I FOUND $10.00 ON THE STREET, ON MY WAY BACK HOME. It was not my day, totally~ but I was happy with $10.00 ^-^

I know how you feel about the computer stuff -- it always makes me nervous too. When I see what the experts do when they are trying to fix things, I usually think they are crazy. How did we get to this point, where we have to spend so much more money that we used to have to spend? It's because everyone else has these things too, so everyone has to work at home, carry a cellphone so their employer can always find them ,etc.

There is a famous article from the Harvard Business Review, May, 2003, written by Nicholas Carr, called "IT Doesn't Matter." In the article, Carr argues that getting the very latest, most advanced Information Technology no longer gives any company a serious advantage over the competition, because IT has now become like a utility -- like the telephone. So for a smart businessperson, the better way now is to look for the cheapest way, not the newest way.

Boy. Microsoft hated that article!
